THE BLIND ETERNITIES
THE SPACE BETWEEN WORLDS
Although it has no official name, the space between the planes of the multiverse is what planeswalkers often refer to as The Blind Eternities. A whirling, chaotic vacuum of space, mana, and energy, The Blind Eternities is antithetical to the existence of life and can only be navigated by those with the planeswalker spark. It has been noted that even ghosts can die if they enter the blind eternities; their spirit torn into particles.
The aether of the blind eternities has a lot to do with how magic is connected between planes in the multiverse. Creature summoning and mana bonds used by planeswalkers flows through the blind eternities in an unknown way, and although many have attempted to study the mechanisms of the space-that-isn’t-a-space, very little has been learned. Magic designer Mark Rosewater once described the blind eternities as ‘a door rather than a space’ and that between planes has no substance, area, or locality, and thus cannot be thought of as a ‘place’. Possibly because of this, whenever a planeswalker ‘walks, they do not “see” the Blind Eternities as they truly are, but instead see an expanse of abstract sensory input that is related to their identity, such as Nissa seeing etherial foliage and vines wrapped around portals that lead to different planes.
The blind eternities are the home to the eldritch Eldrazi, the only non-planeswalker beings who are able to navigate it. It is also home to conceptual entities that transcend planes, such as beings like The Ur-Dragon.
