NEW PHYREXIA
THE GREAT WORK COMPLEAT
Once known as Mirrodin, the plane now called New Phyrexia is a descendant of the original Phyrexia and a horrorscape of machinery and madness. With the majority of Mirrodin overtaken by Phyrexian oil (a nanomachine that transforms flesh to metal and metal to flesh), New Phyrexia rose to prominence with the vast defeat of Mirrodin’s forces. Although divided into five factions, each with their own praetor, the majority of the plane follows and worships Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite of the Machine Orthodoxy and Mother of Machines. Together with Jin-Gitaxias, Sheoldred, Ubarask, and Vorinclex, these five praetors bring their versions of The Great Work to realization with the vivisection and evolution of all life in their domains. Despite a small Mirran resistance in the furnace layer of the plane, New Phyrexia is a technological world of near-perfect nightmare, and seeks only to find a way to reach other planes with its message of perfection and unity.
With Tezzeret and his planar bridge, they found it.
Recently, New Phyrexia has found itself more-or-less united under the leadership of Elesh Norn, enacting a plan to spread New Phyrexia’s perfection across the multiverse. Despite direct opposition from Ubarask and his quiet furnace, and some conflict with Sheoldred, Elesh Norn has managed to cultivate a seed stolen from Kaldheim’s World Tree in the center of New Phyrexia, linking it directly to other planes as it grows. Known as Realmbreaker, the tree has, for the first time since the mending, allowed living beings to pass from one plane to another. The ultimate invasion of New Phyrexia now threatens the entire multiverse.
Thanks to the experiments conducted by Jin-Gitaxias on Kamigawa’s spirits, it is now possible for New Phyrexia to compleat a planeswalker without destroying their soul, and therefore their spark. With this innovation, the planeswalkers that have been compleated thus far include: Tamiyo, Vraska, Nissa, Nahiri, Lukka, Ajani, and Jace.

Gods & avatars
Elesh Norn, Mother of Machines - Although not a true god, Elesh Norn is the focal point of her entire plane’s devotion. The fanatical and religious nature of the scriptures of New Phyrexia, along with her epithet’s purposeful echo of of Yawgmoth’s, make her the face of the plane and its de-facto leader.
The Father of Machines - More of a concept than a god, The Father of Machines is an idea that all Phyrexians are born with inherently. Initially a void filled by the dark god Yawgmoth, the sects of New Phyrexia have no such deity to worship. Instead, they endlessly seek one worthy of the mantle. Initially, Karn was considered the father of the plane, but the mantle has since passed to the praetor Elesh Norn.
Soul of New Phyrexia - A great beast of darksteel that acts as the soul of the plane.
