ELDRAINE
WEAVING A Grim tale
As much a land of Arthurian fantasy as it is one of European fairytale, Eldraine is a plane that feels as much like sunlit Lorwyn as it does harrowing Innistrad. Home plane of (ex)planeswalkers Rowan and Will Kenrith, Eldraine is populated by high courts, vast castles, brave knights, magic mirrors, mysterious merfolk, and even the occasional bear-hunting golden-tressed little girl. There are two distinct areas to the plane: “The Realm” and “The Wilds”, although the two are much more interlinked than the denizens of either would like to admit.
The Realm is a united collection of the five largest kingdoms on Eldraine, each representing a color of mana, keep balance across the realm, and pledge fealty to the High King. The citizens of each kingdom are quite varied, although all tend to be humanoid species such as humans, dwarves, elves, and giants. Each kingdom (also known as “courts”) is defined by a key virtue that they exemplified when they overthrew their oppressive Elven rules in ages past.
The Five Kingdoms are:
Locthwain- Black-aligned, virtue of persistence
Embreth- Red-aligned, virtue of courage
Outside of the Realm and past the Boundary Lands lies the Wilds, a place of wild magic, witches, fae folk, and all manner of unique creatures and mysteries. The fae lord of the wilds, Talion, and three witch sisters Agatha, Eriette, and Hylda, are some of the most powerful magic users in the wilds.
After the invasion of the Phyrexians during the March of the Machine event, the Realm lie in shambles and the High King and the majority of the royal family were killed in battle. The plane resisted the Phyrexian invasion in no small part due to an incredibly magical spell known as “The Wicked Slumber” that has since run out of control and plunged a large portion of the plane into an endless sleep. Currently, the young half-fae hero Kellan is seeking out ways to end the curse by slaying the three witch sisters, while Will Kenrith has taken up his father’s mantle as the new King of the Realm while his twin sister Rowan stands opposed to his rule.
